This year marks the 250th birthday of The United States of America, and as a lifelong U.S. citizen, I decided whatever I do on the channel for the rest of the year should be focused on this incredibly diverse & beautiful country. And what better way to do that than by completing a self imposed challenge? Introducing to The 50 States Challenge! Where I have until the end of the of the year to fly into, and feature on the channel, all 50 U.S. states! Over the next 6 months I'll be posting all of the flights from this challenge in order, so you too can take this incredible journey, exactly as I did! Alaska Fun Facts:
Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas. You could fit Texas, California, and Montana inside it combined. Alaska has more miles of coastline than all the other 49 states combined. Alaska is the only U.S. state whose name can be typed entirely on a single row of a standard keyboard. Out of the 20 highest peaks in the United States, 17 are located in Alaska, including Denali, the highest mountain in North America at 20,310 feet. The state is home to over 3 million lakes and 12,000 rivers. During the summer, northern parts of Alaska experience continuous daylight for months without the sun setting. Prospect Creek, Alaska recorded a temperature of -80°F in 1971, which is the coldest temperature ever measured in U.S. history. Juneau, the state capital, is not connected to the North American highway system and can only be reached by boat or plane. Dog mushing is the official state sport, celebrated with long-distance races like the Iditarod. The United States bought Alaska from Russia in 1867 for just $7.2 million, which breaks down to about 2 cents per acre.
