According to those who knew him, Willie Nelson never forgot where he came from, and he could not stand by while American family farmers lost the land their families had worked for generations.

In 1985, moved by the farm crisis sweeping the country, Willie reached out to Neil Young and John Mellencamp. Together they organized the very first Farm Aid concert, a benefit meant to raise money and awareness for struggling farm families.

What was meant to be one show became something far bigger. Farm Aid continued year after year, raising millions of dollars to help families keep their homes and their farms.

Decades later, Willie was still there, still singing, still fighting for the people so many had forgotten.
