I went on a road trip 2 years ago that brought me through Indiana where I was "stranded" for longer that I had planned. I met some fantastic people where I was staying. I miss them! We played cards at their club house and
1. I was so comfortable that I went swimming in their pool, in public, for the first time since I was in my 20's.
2. I saw real lightning, the actual bolts, not just the glow behind the clouds like what happens on the coast here.
3. When I said, "Excuse me, please." to a group of teenaged boys intent on their video game and blocking the aisle at a convenience store, they immediately flattened themselves against the video machines and said, "Yes, ma'am." and "Sorry, ma'am." I thought I was on another planet.
4. I saw lightning bugs flicker above the lawn in the evening for the first time since childhood.
