????️ On July 5, 2003, Johnny Cash gave the final public concert of his life at the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia.

The 71-year-old country legend performed a roughly 30-minute set featuring classics including “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line,” “Big River,” and “Ring of Fire.”

Cash was still grieving the death of his wife and musical partner, June Carter Cash, who had passed away seven weeks earlier.

Before performing “Ring of Fire,” which June co-wrote with Merle Kilgore, Cash told the audience that June’s spirit was with him and that she continued to give him courage and inspiration.

Johnny Cash died on September 12, 2003, from complications related to diabetes—just 69 days after his final concert.

The performance remains one of the most emotional farewells in country-music history.
