Pearl Harbor's Unknown Hero tells the remarkable true story of Joe George, a U.S. Navy sailor whose decision during the attack on Pearl Harbor saved six men trapped aboard the burning USS Arizona.

On December 7, 1941, George was serving aboard the USS Vestal, moored alongside the Arizona, when Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor. As fire engulfed the Arizona, six sailors found themselves trapped above the flames. Despite receiving an order to cut the lines between the two ships, George made a decision that would save their lives.

Using a weighted heaving line, he gave the stranded sailors a way to cross more than 50 feet above the water to the USS Vestal. More than 1,000 members of the Arizona's crew were killed during the attack, but the six men George helped were among the survivors.

For decades, his actions went largely unrecognized. Survivors Lauren Bruner and Donald Stratton, together with their families and George's daughter, fought to have his actions formally acknowledged. More than 70 years after Pearl Harbor, their campaign finally brought recognition to the sailor who had saved their lives.
