Sir Humphrey Kynaston (often called Wild Humphrey Kynaston) was a famous 16th-century English highwayman and outlaw.

• Background: Born around 1468, he was the son of Sir Roger Kynaston and Lady Elizabeth Grey, coming from a wealthy and noble Shropshire family.
• Outlaw Life: After being convicted of murder and felony charges in the early 1490s by King Henry VII, he fled and lived as a highwayman for roughly 25 years.
• The Cave: He lived in a two-room sandstone cave carved into Nesscliffe Rock in Shropshire.
• Robin Hood Figure: He had a reputation for robbing wealthy merchants and sharing some of his spoils with local villagers, who in turn hid and protected him.
• The Horse: Legend says he rode a black
horse named Beelzebub, and he famously evaded authorities by leaping across the gap of Montford Bridge over the River Severn.
• Pardon and Death: He was eventually pardoned by King Henry VIII after supplying soldiers for a French campaign, and he died of natural causes around 1534.
