What if the real heroes of the Bonnie and Clyde story were never the famous outlaws... but the men who finally brought them down?

In this review, we take a closer look at The Highwaymen (2019), Netflix's understated crime drama starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as legendary Texas Rangers Frank Hamer and Maney Gault.

Rather than glorifying America's most infamous criminals, director John Lee Hancock tells the story from the perspective of the ageing lawmen who tracked them across Depression-era America. It's a slower, more thoughtful film than many crime thrillers, but one rich in atmosphere, character, and historical detail.

In this video we'll explore:

???? Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson's performances
???? The real history behind Frank Hamer and the Texas Rangers
???? How the film differs from earlier Bonnie & Clyde adaptations
???? John Lee Hancock's restrained direction
???? Cinematography, music and visual storytelling
???? Historical accuracy and behind-the-scenes trivia
???? Why The Highwaymen deserves more attention

If you enjoy intelligent crime dramas and historical films, this is one well worth revisiting.
