Country music legend Willie Nelson officially endorsed Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in a video provided exclusively to the Houston Chronicle. Sitting in a kitchen wearing his signature red bandana, Nelson said: "I've gotten to know James Talarico. He's a good man and will be a good senator for the state of Texas. Please vote and vote for James Talarico." The endorsement simultaneously launches Rural Texans for Talarico, a new initiative focused on data centers, health care workers, and internet access in rural Texas communities. The latest NYT/Siena College poll shows Talarico leading Republican Ken Paxton 51 to 45 percent. Kalshi gives Talarico a 67 percent chance of winning. Democrats have not won a Texas Senate seat since 1988. The Chicks also endorsed Talarico by wearing Talafreako shirts on tour.
