During the 1990 IRS seizure over a multimillion-dollar tax dispute, federal marshals took Willie Nelson's properties across several states along with his recording studio and memorabilia. Nelson had anticipated the raid and instructed his daughter Lana to remove his 1969 Martin N-20 classical guitar, named Trigger, and stash it safely in Maui. When his possessions were auctioned off, loyal fans and farmer groups bought back his belongings to return to him, and Nelson eventually settled the balance with the government through a revenue-sharing album recorded using that exact guitar. The battle wear and the famous extra hole carved into the soundboard by decades of flatpick wear remained untouched on stage that year.
